Local shooters maintained their dominance of the three-day Malta International shoot at the Bidnija ranges as overnight leaders Clive Farrugia and Nicky Carabott claimed the honours in skeet and trap respectively.

Farrugia was the top shooter in the skeet competition after completing the qualifying round with a remarkable score of 115 - an ISSF MQS - before hitting 23 in the final barrage to finish on 138 points.

Darren Vella, who had advanced to the final with 107 hits, was a distant second on 130 ahead of Paul Vella who placed third on 125.

The other three shooters who contested the barrage were all Maltese with fourth place going to Jason Sciberras (124) ahead of Max Fenech (122) and Paul Sant (117).

Malta won the team competition with an overall tally of 326. Wales were second on 284.

Evans Cerys clinched the ladies' title with a score of 87.

The trap competition was a closer affair. Carabott, who went into the final day with a four-point lead at the top, saw his advantage trimmed to just one clay as he ended the qualifying round on 110 against Stanley Cardona's 109.

The duel continued in the final with Cardona smashing 20 from 25 against Carabott's 19, the two shooters thus finishing level on 129.

In the shoot-off for first place, Carabott kept his nerves under check to prevail after the third shot. Welshman Scott Morgan completed the podium with 128 points.

The other three qualifiers for the skeet final were Ryan Bugeja (126), Ian Belcher (123) and Paolo Conti (121).

As in the skeet event, Malta captured the team title as Carabott, Cardona and Bugeja amassed 327 points between them to finish ahead of Wales, 311, and Italy, 297. The women's competition was won by Ceryl Gizzi who scored 99 points.
