The European Commission for Transport recently presented Qrendi Scout Group with the Excellence in Road Safety award at a ceremony at the Hotel Le Plaza in Brussels.
The ceremony was chaired by Antonio Tajani, vice-president, commissioner for transport, European Commission. Six charter signatories received a distinction for contributing to safer roads in Europe, adopting a pro-active attitude, and improving road safety conditions.
The award winners were First Group plc (UK) from the multinationals category; AEK Football Club (Greece), representing small and medium-sized enterprises; Madrid Association of Roadside Companies Assistance, from the federations category; the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana, representing institutions; and Brasov City Hall, Romania.
Mr Tajani congratulated the winners and said he too was a Scout in his youth. National Scout organisations, scout groups and youth organisations are encouraged to become European Road Safety charter signatories by visiting www.erscharter.eu.
