Maltese shooters are topping the provisional leaderboards at the Bidnija ranges following the opening day of competition in the International Trap and Skeet Shoot, organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation.

Shooters from Wales and Italy are among those vying for the honours but the opening rounds saw the locals dominating the scene.

In Trap, Ryan Bugeja and Nicky Carabott are joint leaders with a score of 42/50. Jason J. Aquilina and Morgan Scott are second, 41/50, and Stanley Cardona third, 40/50.

Clive Farrugia and Darren Vella hit the same points after the opening 50 clays in Skeet.

They lead on a score of 44/50, ahead of Max Fenech (42/50), James Gareth (41/50) and Paul Sant and Paul Vella (both 39/50). Farrugia managed a straight of 25 clays.

Both competitions resume today with another 50 clays. The finals are reserved for tomorrow afternoon.
