An Air Rifle Field Target competition, the second this year from the Malta Allied Airgunners Club (MAAC) calendar, was held earlier this month at the Victoria Shooting Range at Ħandaq, limits of Qormi.

The competition was characterised by forceful winds which caused considerable difficulty for the 14 participating shooters to hit the target 35m away.

Despite the unfavourable conditions, the top two shooters of the day did not disappoint and both scored 22/30 which resulted in a shoot-off for first and second place.

David Giardina kept his cool and had the better of James Bugeja by smashing three of the first four knockdowns while Bugeja failed to hit the first three consecutive targets. Third place went to Kris Debattista with 18/30.

Ruth Gauci made her debut in Field Target competitions. She scored a creditable 14/30. The next MAAC activity, an Air Pistol Steel Challenge, is due to be held on Sunday.

Result: D. Giardina 22/30 (SO); J. Bugeja 22/30; K. Debattista 18/30; R. Scorfna, E. Attard, W. Galea 16/30; R. Gauci 14/30; A. Cini, G. Gouder 13/30; S. Shaw 10/30; C. Scorfna 8/30; S. Bonello, N. Bugeja 7/30; M. Spiteri 3/30.
