Fondazzjoni Wirt Arta has completed a clean-up of St Thomas Tower, removing 18 skips full of building debris and other material from the historic building.

The tower was transferred to the foundation by the government on August 4.

Over the past two weeks the members of the foundation documented the state of the tower and removed modern structures which were installed when the tower was used as a restaurant.

Over the next four weeks the foundation will waterproof the roof, clean-up the exterior of the tower and install basic services for visitors. Apertures will be replaced as necessary.

The coastal defence tower was built on the orders of Grandmaster Wignacourt in 1614.
