Canon Brian Meilak of Nadur last Sunday was installed as parish priest of Kerċem.

He was first accompanied by the Mnarja Band to Nadur basilica, where he was given a hearty welcome by Nadur parishioners. Following vespers, Canon Meilak, together with his parents and Nadur archpriest Saviour Muscat, was escorted to Kerċem where he was welcomed by mayor Joe Grima, the two parish vicars Canon Carmelo Borg and Fr Roberto Gauci, clerics and people from Kerċem and Nadur.

The bands of both villages then accompanied Canon Meilak to the church parvis where he was received by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.

After welcoming speeches by Mr Grima and M'Anne Mercieca of the parish council, Mgr Grech invested the new parish priest with the stole and the crucifix. Canon Meilak was then given the keys to the main door of the church to symbolise his responsibility as head of the parish of Kerċem.
