Veteran player Joe Grech has won the national billiards championship for the sixth year in a row.

In the final, played in front of a sizeable crowd at the Anglo Maltese club in Valletta, Grech had the better of Pawlu Galea 914-425.

Grech produced breaks of 99, 94 and 82 on his way to sealing the title but his best scoring run in this year's championship was a 145 in the semi-finals. The Ħamrun Liberty cueist is also the holder of the highest break ever recorded in local billiards competitions - 567.

Frans Bugeja, president of the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association, was the referee of the final.
