I agree with Tony C. Cutajar's views (May 16) regarding immediate action that must be taken in San Ġwann. I can assure Mr Cutajar that the council is tackling most of these points and shall be building a programme of works that we envisage to implement in the coming months, so as to continue on the good that has already been done by previous councils throughout the years.

However, my main concern is the fatal merry-go-round in Karen Grech garden. Prior to the publication of Mr Cutajar's letter, the local council had a meeting with Inspector Spiteri from the San Ġwann police station, asking him to give us an update, and hence formal instructions, regarding this merry-go-round following a court order to chain this apparatus was taken some two years ago. Most residents describe this merry-go-round as an eyesore in this prominent garden.

At least twice, the council had to weld back this apparatus after irresponsible people managed to cut loose the bars that hold it from functioning. After two whole years, I think it is about time the authorities decide whether this apparatus needs to be removed and the council would be more than willing to install something different or more adequate, or if it is considered as safe, let the bars loose! Most important of all is that we speed up the process to eliminate any dangerous structures and give the opportunity of enjoyment to children visiting this garden and its play area during the coming summer.

It is essential to keep our residents posted, mostly those who think that the San Ġwann local council is not giving this issue priority, but in reality we are put to a halt and cannot do more than wait!
