The Malta Karate Federation (MKF) recently held a Dan-grading exercise for its members. The event was sponsored by Nestlé Malta through its Fitness Brand.

The panel of examiners was made up of three members of the MKF's Technical Board, namely, Sensei Anthony Zammit (5th Dan Black Belt), Sensei James Galea (4th Dan Black Belt) and Sensei Jason Edwards (3rd Dan Black Belt).

The karatekas were examined on all the technical and practical aspects. These are Kihon (basic techniques), Kata (forms) and various forms of Kumite (sparring).

The new Black Belts have been training at the MKF for a considerable number of years.

In a brief address, Technical Director Zammit told the successful candidates that they should be very proud of their achievement, which truly marks a milestone in their careers. He also encouraged them to continue to further their knowledge of Karate on a practical and theoretical basis.

The MKF, the only karate organisation in Malta directly affiliated to the World Karate Federation, has seven clubs spread around the island. It is also affiliated to the Maltese Olympic Committee and the Malta Sports Council.
