A driver and two passengers were lucky to sustain only minor injuries when the car they were in overturned on the Hal-Far road yesterday morning.

The accident happened at about 11.15 a.m. when a red Peugeot 307 station wagon, driven by a 53-year-old woman from Gudja, for some reason hit the curb and flipped over.

Civil Protection Department personnel were called on site to free the driver and the two passengers from the car.

The driver and her two passengers - a 27-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, both from Marsascala - were taken to Mater Dei Hospital to be treated for their injuries. The two women were suffering from slight injuries and were released soon after and the man was kept for observation as he suffered head injuries.

Duty Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera appointed a number of court experts to assist her in the magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are under way.
