Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi (left) seen with the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, whom he met in Kiev recently. Dr Azzopardi, who is chairman of the House of Representatives' Foreign Relations Committee, was in Kiev as head of the Maltese partliamentary delegation to the OSCE, which was holding its annual meeting in the Ukrainian capital.

President Yushchenko congratulated Malta for its adoption of the euro and was extremely interested to know from Dr Azzopardi the latest developments within the EU on certain issues. He requested Malta's support in helping Ukraine's opening up to Europe and asked Dr Azzopardi to pass on his personal and warm greetings to President Fenech Adami,whom he wished to host in Kiev very soon.

During the Kiev meeting, Dr Azzopardi took part in the meeting on the Mediterranean, where the latest developments in the Middle East were discussed in great detail, and was instrumental in the OSCE parliamentary assembly's decision to send a delegation, led by its presidernt, on a first-ever visit to Libya towards the end of the year. Dr Azzopardi was asked by the OSCE's president to accompany the delegation to Tripoli.
