Frenchman Julien Loy led a home clean sweepin the men's triathlon long-distance world championships yesterday.

Loy, who finished fourth and fifth in the previous two editions, was in dominant form as he finished in three hours 30.11 minutes, more than six minutes ahead of Xavier Le Floch.

Sebastien Berlier took bronze ahead of Denmark's defending champion Torbjorn Sindballe.

This year was the first championships since the long-course race was officially and controversially shortened from triple to double Olympic distance - making it a 3,000m swim, 80km bike ride and 20km run.

In the women's event, Briton Leander Cave completed a double by adding the long-distance gold to the 2002 Olympic distance world title.

Cave crossed the line two minutes ahead of Hungary's Erika Csomor, who finished strongly to overhaul Briton Catriona Morrison in the final kilometre.

"Absolutely fantastic. I came here with a goal and I did it," said Cave. "I always wanted to win the long-distance world champs and now I just have one more goal: to go and win the Ironman world champs in Hawaii."
