A train crashed into a tour bus carrying 40 pensioners in the northeastern German town of Malchin yesterday, killing one woman and leaving six people badly injured, police said.

A further six people were slightly hurt in the crash at a level crossing, said police in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state. The police had earlier said 29 people had been injured.

Held up by a traffic jam on the road ahead, the back of the bus was still on the tracks at the level crossing when the train ploughed into it, said police.

None of the 20 train passengers were hurt, although the driver sustained minor injuries.
