Violinist Madeleine Mitchell, described by The Times of London as "one of Britain's liveliest musical forces", has returned to Malta at the invitation of the International String Orchestra Festival to give a celebrity recital, accompanied by pianist Hanja Bantock.

Ms Mitchell has performed as a soloist in over 40 countries, including Malta, for TV and in festivals.

In addition to popular romantic works by Brahms and Elgar (whose 150th anniversary falls this year) she will play two short, attractive works specially written for her by two of Britain's best known composers, Michael Nyman (nominated for an Oscar for his film music to The Piano) and James MacMillan CBE.

Ms Mitchell's visit is sponsored by Le Meridian Phoenicia and the main festival sponsor is GE. She will give a master class for the students in the ISO festival tomorrow.

Tickets for the concert, being held this evening at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, cost Lm5. They are available by calling 2124 6389, by booking through www.teatrumanoel.com.mt or at the door.
