Only four out of 17 recently-scheduled properties are in a very good condition, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority said yesterday.

The rest are suffering either from unauthorised intervention, deterioration or neglect.

The scheduling was considered urgent due to neglect, pillaging and vandalism and applications for redevelopment of the sites.

According to Mepa, the structures were scheduled for their architectural, historical or contextual significance.

The structures are: Palazzo Francica, Lija; Palazzo Stagno, Qormi; Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar; Palazzo Curmi, Zejtun; Palazzo Pescatore, St Paul's Bay; Il-Kunvent, Zabbar; Is-Simblija, Dingli; Dar ix-Xemx, Nadur; a rubble wall, Lija; a rural structure, Zurrieq; Ta' Baldu complex, Rabat; the Officer's Mess at Fort Campbell, Mellieha; St George's Barracks, St Julians; Nicca Ta' l-Infetti, Birkirkara; a bungalow, Luqa; Roseville, San Anton Street, Attard; and the underground flourmill, St Paul's Bay.

Only Palazzo Parisio, the underground flour mill, the rubble wall and the Simblija complex are in a very good condition.

Many of the sites have established gardens that give the surrounding developments an internal open space according to the traditional fabric of Maltese buildings, Mepa noted.
