An international symposium entitled Problems In Breast Pathology was held at the Hilton Hotel in honour of John Azzopardi, a pioneer in breast pathology.

The title of the meeting bore the name of his famous textbook, considered by many as the most lucid and practical textbook of breast pathology ever written.

The symposium was organised by James DeGaetano, on behalf of the Malta College of Pathologists, and by Vincenzo Eusebi, professor of anatomic pathology at Bologna University.

Thirteen of the world's leading breast pathologists spoke on the most recent and controversial topics in the field. About 120 pathologists from all over the globe attended.

Towards the end of the symposium, Prof. Azzopardi was given a standing ovation.

At the end of the meeting, which also featured a synopsis of Prof. Azzopardi's professional accomplishments, Prof. Azzopardi was presented with a life-time achievement award by the International Society of Breast Pathology, the first time such an award has been given.

The proceedings of the meeting shall be published in the International Journal of Surgical Pathology.
