National Book Prize

A reform of the existing Literary Prize by the National Book Council, a website, the publication of a report and a literary evening are among the immediate projects of the council.

The council said that the change of name of the Literary Prize to the National Book Prize is intended to widen the catchment area of the prize, covering all aspects of book production.

In its planned reform, the council is intending to start new categories to avoid potential injustices in which different genre books compete for the same prize.

The council is also proposing a life achievement award for Maltese authors. The traditional prizes for drama, poetry and research will be retained.
