Police surveillance in Hamrun on the basis of a tip-off on drug trafficking has paid off.

The police yesterday afternoon arrested a 31-year-old man from Hamrun after he was allegedly found in possession of heroin.

The police said the drug was in a number of sachets ready for trafficking.

The man, who is known to the police, was arrested at his residence and the drug was found in his possession, the police said.

The police said they had been monitoring the area for some days after they had received information that drug trafficking was taking place.

The police are investigating the case further.
