David Carabott yesterday completed his switch to champions Sliema Wanderers, signing on for the rest of the season with an option of extending the contract by another year.

Carabott, 37, became a free player last week after parting company with Premier League club Msida St Joseph.

The Wanderers were first in expressing interest to sign the experienced Carabott, Malta's most capped player with 123 appearances, in their bid to strengthen their chances of winning a fourth league title on the trot.

The prospect of challenging for the top domestic honours led Carabott to immediately accept Sliema's offer to join their ranks.

Carabott's move to Sliema represents another twist in what has been an eventful year for the former Malta skipper.

After a successful loan spell with Ghajnsielem whom he helped to the GFA Division One title, Carabott was technically a Marsaxlokk player at the end of the 2004-2005 season.

Carabott, who spent the best years of his career with Hibernians, had joined Marsaxlokk from Valletta in July of 2003 but his stay at his home club lasted only two years.

Last August, Carabott acquired his release from Marsaxlokk and then joined Msida on a free transfer. Four months later, Carabott has added a new, illustrious club to add to his CV.
