Francis Zammit Dimech, Minister for Tourism and Culture, is in Milan attending the annual BIT Fair, one of the largest tourism fairs in Europe and the largest in Italy.

During his stay, he inaugurated a new web portal by the Malta Tourism Authority offering access to information about Malta to tour operators and travel agents in Italy.

Dominic Micallef, MTA director in Italy, coordinated the initiative and explained its functions to Italian travel agents and operators at the fair.

Dr Zammit Dimech spoke about the importance of Italy as one of the main source markets for tourism to Malta. "Last year, tourists from Italy increased by 3.5 per cent," Dr Zammit Dimech said. "But there is scope to go for a further increase and the web portal created specifically for the Italian market should provide us with an effective communication tool for this purpose."

The portal is at www.quimalta.it.
