The Front Kontra l-Golf Kors said AX Holdings' statement about the golf course issue was riddled with misinformation.

AX Holdings was downplaying the water issue, it said, when the fact was that according to indications given by the developers' consultant to the Water Services Corporation, the proposed golf course would consume a huge quantity of water.

"AX Holdings is clearly misleading the public when stating that 86 per cent of the farmers had accepted to give up the land. The fact is that almost all farmers tilling land at Verdala had signed a petition that was presented to the Vatican, the Prime Minister and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, whereby they clearly state that they oppose the golf course proposal and that they do not want to give up the land," the front said.

The front said it stood by the Planning Directorate's expert environmental, social, economic and planning recommendations to the Mepa board.

The directorate has recommended the refusal of a permit for the golf course application and the Mepa board is expected to decide on the application today.
