Pierre Borg's national team will be facing Denmark in their first test from the European 'B' Championship qualifying group this afternoon in Turkey.

Malta play in Group B along with Denmark, Portugal, Turkey, Israel and Poland. Group A is composed of Belgium, Switzerland, Ukraine, France, Moldova and Belarus.

The national team's match sequence is as follows: Denmark (today), Israel (tomorrow), Portugal (Sunday), Poland (Monday) and Turkey (Tuesday). Day Six of the championship, Wednesday, is a rest day. The positional play-offs are reserved for September 9, 10 and 11.

In Turkey, the national team is accompanied by international referee Mario Dalli. He will officiate some of the championship matches.

Last year, the national team figured rather badly in the European 'A' Championship qualifiers in Bratislava.

They lost three matches to hosts Slovakia 2-16, Turkey 6-10 and Greece 7-15 before conceding two walk-overs to Romania and Poland as the squad returned home prematurely but in time for the country's general elections.

Meanwhile, Anthony Farrugia's Malta U-19 squad is in Budapest where a training camp will be held in preparation of the European Junior Championship at Tal-Qroqq between September 12 and 19.

Two other Maltese international referees, Peter Balzan and Ivan Sciriha, will be in control of some of the matches from the junior championship at the National Pool.
