Ambassador Salv. J. Stellini has been appointed chairman of the inter-ministerial steering committee that will coordinate the work of the ministries in relation to the Commonwealth heads of government meeting being held in Malta in November, 2005.

Representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs will form the core membership of the committee. Representatives from other ministries will also be requested to participate on an ad hoc basis.

Ambassador Stellini, who holds a part-time position of adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion, has extensive experience in the field of foreign affairs, having served in the Foreign Ministry for over 30 years with overseas service inter alia as ambassador in Washington and High Commissioner in London.

In the late 1960s he was posted to Malta's mission to the UN and in the 1970s served on secondment for three years at the Commonwealth Secretariat as assistant director in the Office of the Secretary-General and in the Department for International Affairs.

In his career he was involved in three other CHOGMS - those held in London, Lusaka, and Durban.

Ambassador Stellini was appointed Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996 and held this position until his retirement in 2001.
