Hamrun Spartans and coach Gencho Dobrev reached a mutual agreement last night to part ways after Sunday's 3-1 upset to Msida St Joseph practically spelt finis to the seven-times champions' aspirations of saving their status this season.

The Spartans are currently rooted to the bottom of the Relegation Pool with just two points and still in search of their first win this season. A spokesman said the committee was disappointed with some decisions taken by the Bulgarian coach who took over from Patrick Curmi in October.

No replacement has yet been named but the team is likely to be handed to club skipper Stefan Sultana, fully qualified in top level coaching.
