Ronnie Azzopardi, the brother of Jason Azzopardi, who was murdered in October 2001, was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of the boyfriend of his brother's former partner.

Azzopardi, 31, of Cospicua, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Kevin Attard, by firing a gun in his direction in Cospicua on Wednesday.

He also pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Josef Tabone, the possession of a firearm and ammunition at the time of the commission of the crime and without a licence and causing over Lm500 damage to two cars that were parked in the area during the shooting incident.

Police are expected to arraign a minor, in relation to an episode connected with this case, in the coming days.

Police Inspectors Jeffrey Cilia and Anthony Cassar prosecuted.

Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for Azzopardi.
