Lawrence (Wenzu) Vella, a former Malta shooter who represented the country in various international events, including the Olympics and Mediterranean Games, died yesterday at his residence in Mosta. He was 79.

Vella, founder member of the Hunters' Association, took part in the Trap competition in the 1958 Mediterranean Games in Beirut and the 1960 Olympics in Rome. He was the father of Larry and uncle to Frans Pace, two other Trap competitors who also figure prominently in the annals of the Malta Shooting Federation.

The funeral will be held today at 8.30 a.m. at the Mosta parish church.
