Paul Vella shot methodically well last Sunday to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the 50-clay skeet competition and 25-clay barrage for the Nigma Cup.

The overall performance of the shooters was hindered by the blustery winds that altered the trajectory of the clays. Nevertheless, Vella shot a fine 24 in the final, despite the odds, to seal his win.

Result: 1. Paul Vella 67; 2. Joe Genovese 63; 3. Silvio Attard 62.

On the ranges of the Southern Shooting Club the fight was to the end. Like the previous weekend, the protagonists again were John Marmara and Frans Pace.

The competition was the annual Grand Prix on 125 clays and a 25-clay final.

In the first session of the competition, on 75 clays, the scores reflected the composure of the shooters spirited by the good weather.

Marmara shot a fantastic 74 to take the day, shooting a 50-straight in the process.

Pace mustered all his experience on Day Two of the competition and shot 47 in strong winds on the last 50 clays. This effort brought him just one clay short of Marmara's total of 116. Pace then sealed his win after topping the highest score in the barrage.

Final result: 1. Frans Pace 137; 2. John Marmara 134; 3. Joe Attard 130; 4. Stephen Vella 127; 5. Nazzareno Attard 126; 6. Eugene Borg 126.
