Two Maltese are among the 500 participants from 77 countries at Kyung Hee University in Yong-In City, South Korea to take part in the 14th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2002).

The olympiad consists of various complex informatics problems that have to be solved in a short time. In terms of the number of participants, IOI 2002 is the largest one in the history of IOI.

Participants include 277 contestants aged under 20 and key figures from IT-related industries and educational fields from the participating countries.

The Maltese National Informatics Team, led by Angelo Dalli, consists of two students, Joel Azzopardi and Christian Colombo, who are both competing for the prestigious medals.

As representatives of their nations, all contestants' abilities have been verified through strict screening and training procedures. The competition will take place tomorrow and on Thursday.
