Valletta's adventure in the Intertoto Cup came to an end yesterday after the Citizens could not go beyond a 0-0 draw against KS Teuta in the second leg played in Tirana to bow out of the competition after a 2-1 defeat on aggregate.

Despite holding possession for most of the match and creating several chances the Citizens could not break down the solid Teuta rearguard. The best chance fell to striker Chris Oretan after 25 minutes but the Nigerian's effort was superbly blocked by Teuta goalkeeper Shehi.

With Kamil Dvorak and Nicky Saliba out of the match, Valletta coach Fenech effected four changes from the side that lost the first leg 2-1 at Corradino. Jeffrey Chetcuti and Darren Debono joined Daniel Theuma in defence while Sean Sullivan replaced Ernest Barry in goal. Antoine Sacco was also rewarded a starting berth.

Fenech praised his team's performance yesterday and said that they were certainly the better side after the two matches. "I believe that we were really unlucky not to go through because over the two legs we were the better side. But in football, it is the goals that you score that count and not the quality of football that you show. We created numerous chances over the two legs but they scored more than we did and that put them through," Fenech said.

"However, we should take heart from the performance of our players in this competition. I was really impressed especially with our young players who showed no signs of uneasiness in such an important match. With so many talented youngsters in the squad, the future is bright for Valletta."

Valletta started with following line-up: S. Sullivan, J. Chetcuti, D. Debono, D. Theuma, R. Forace, J. Bondin, K. Bonnici, K. Laferla, A. Sacco, G. Agius, C. Oretan.
