Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, former president of the Labour Party, has joined Economy Minister Chris Cardona in the race to become the party's deputy leader for party affairs.

The two submitted their nomination for the election today. Justice Minister Owen Bonnici has also said he will be a candidate.

Dr Cardona was nominated by Ġuża Cassar, seconded by Joe Debono Grech, while Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi was also proposed by Ġuża Cassar and seconded by Michael Buttigieg. Ms Cassar had also nominated Konrad Mizzi, whose resignation in the wake of the Panama Papers scandal led to this election.

Nominations will also be received tomorrow. The election will be held on June 9 and 10 and on June 11 if there is a run-off.
