(Adds government statement)

Environment Shadow Minister Marthese Portelli and spokesman Ryan Callus have written to the chairman of the House Environment and  Development Planning Committee requesting an urgent debate on the November 2014 Preliminary Site Evaluation Report on Zonqor.

The report, tabled in Parliament yesterday, shows that the planning authority bypassed Fort San Leonardu.

This was due to a number of reasons, including vegetation in need of protection and difficulties of approach when compared to Żonqor Point.

A copy of their letter can be read in the pdf link below.

In a statement this afternoon, the government said it had no problem publishing the preliminary report although it was the first time that this had been done,.

In the same way, it would not be a problem of the report to be eventually discussed in the Committee at the right time although this was not within the remit of this Committee.

The government said it wished that the debate would be a wider one.
