Jesmond Zerafa has been appointed coach of Naxxar Lions after the Premier League club parted ways with Winston Muscat.

Zerafa, who led Valletta to back-to-back Premier League titles between 2010 and 2012, was without a job after he didn’t renew his contract with Balzan at the end of last season.

Muscat had been in charge of the Lions for a number of seasons but with the team still without a victory after seven league matches, the club’s committee decided to bring in a new coach to try and reverse the team’s fortunes.

Last Friday, Naxxar Lions, who only saved their Premier League status at the end of last season, suffered a 5-1 defeat to leaders Hibernians. They are second from bottom in the table with only three points, one more than Zebbug Rangers.
