A court today dismissed a claim made by the Zejtun council that it did not owe money to the Department for Construction and Maintenance.

Madam Justice Anna Felice heard that the department had filed a judicial letter in court claiming that the council owed it €81,378 (Lm34,935) for works carried out.

The council had tried to rebut this claim on the basis that the department's request was barred by lapse of time and that the works carried out had not been done correctly.

But the court pointed out that the council had not provided any evidence in support of its claim.

The court dismissed the cCouncil's allegations and found in favour of the department.
