Simon Zammit finished third in the Masters event at the IBSF World Championships in Hyderebad, India yesterday.

The veteran player, who ousted India's Devendra Joshi and Thailand's Noppadon Noppachorn on his way to the semi-finals, met former professional player Darren Morgan, of Wales, for a place in the final during yesterday's morning session.

Morgan, who in his prime was ranked as high as no.8 in the WPBSA rankings, proved too strong for the Maltese player, winning the match 5-0.

However, Zammit soon made amends for that setback when he beat Cyprus players Costas Connaris 3-1 in the play-off for third place to complete a fine performance in these championships.

Alex Borg and Duncan Bezzina, Malta's representatives in the men's competition, bowed out in the KO stages last weekend.

Borg lost to India's Kamal Chawla 5-4 in the Last 32 while Bezzina suffered a 4-0 defeat to Welsh player Philip Williams in the Last 64.
