The plight of immigrants dying in the Mediterranean Sea has pushed three political youth leaders to journey to Lampedusa to raise awareness on the urgent need for action.

Nationalist MEP contender Kevin Plumpton was accompanied by YEPP president Konstantinos Kyranakis from Greece and YEPP vice president Riccardo Pozzi from Italy on the 28-hour journey on board a sailing boat from Malta.

Their message that action, not just words on migration is needed, coincides with today's summit in Brussels where European leaders are meeting to discuss the immigration dilemma after hundreds of asylum seekers died in a shipwreck off Lampedusa earlier this month.

While showing solidarity with the victims, the team will be sending a joint letter to all EU decision-makers to step up their efforts to fight human trafficking and shoulder responsibility for the protection of asylum seekers.

Mr Plumpton, MZPN president, is urging youth across Europe to take action and make their voice heard.
