Andrew Deguara, of San Gwann.
Dear Junior News, my name is Andrew and I am five years old. I like reading all books and my favourite character is Spot.

I drew a picture of Spot for you. I hope you like it. Take care, Andrew.

You are lucky you enjoy reading Andrew, because reading is not just fun, it is something that helps with all school work and shows us ways to get on with people and deal with all the different things that happen to us. And we are printing your letter and your lovely picture of Spot now because this is an animal issue of Junior News.

Kirsten Saliba, 10, of Fgura
Dear Junior News, I have a cat. Her name is Beauty. She is three years old. Her fur is ash colour. She is friendly with other animals and with us, as long as no other animals enter her territory. She is a good catcher of mice and insects. She never jumps into out neighbour's yard, she likes to stay in our yard.

Beauty was given to me by my dad on my birthday. I had been waiting so long to have a cat. I promised dad that I would take good care of it.

Beauty eats dry food and only drinks water but in the morning my mum gives her some tea. She likes to play with her plastic mouse and with her ball. Mum gets very angry when Beauty scratches the curtains or the fitted carpet.

We take Beauty to the vet regularly to check her up. Beauty likes to be cuddled a lot by us. In the evening she likes to stay on the sofa with us, watching TV and being cuddled.

Each day that passes I grow fonder of her and I'll be very sorry when I see her not feeling well. Beauty has grown into a quiet cat and she gives me no trouble. I cannot understand why some people treat animals so badly, when animals are so cute.

Your picture of Beauty was too small and dark to print Kirsten, but she looks a really sweet cat. Sadly there will always be people who are ignorant enough to ill treat animals, but you have proved that you can look after your pet well. So you and all the other people who care about animals are helping to set the right example. And you've won a L11.65 voucher and VIP Toyland's discount card for sending this week's star letter. Well done.

Michael Misfud, nine, of Sliema
Dear Junior News, I am so happy that you put my letter in Junior News today (January 2). I hope that children will now know what to do when they see someone in need of help.

But your wrote my surname as Muscat, instead of Mifsud. Do not worry, we all make mistakes. Thank you for the voucher and the VIP discount card.

We're glad you were happy to have sent our star letter, Michael. And thank you for being so nice about the wrong name being printed, especially since you are such a regular contributor and we all know your name well. We apologise so this will make it clear to readers exactly who you are!

• The sender of the star letter each week will receive a Lm5 voucher to exchange and a VIP 10 per cent discount card for all toys at Toyland for a whole year!

• Send your letters, together with your full name, age and address to Junior News.
