Ariane Aquilina, 13, of Attard
Dear Junior News, first of all I want to say a very big thank you to you! A few weeks ago you published a poem of mine, which I had sent to you and it was nice to see it in our paper. Obviously thank you, as well, for publishing such an interesting newspaper!

The Maltese people have been celebrating carnival. I hope that everyone had as good a time as I did! Like so many others I ate a lot of sweets seeing as how I have 40 days without sweets or chocolate. But at the end of these 40 days there will be Easter, with chocolate eggs and figolli to make up for them!

Thank you too, Ariane, for sending your poems. The latest one has already been filed to appear in a suitable issue. We think it's great you're sticking to a sweetless Lent. It's not easy - ask anyone who's been on a diet. So keep it up!

Dear Junior News, my mother, my friend Michael and I went abroad last year to the mountains in Austria.

From Milan airport, in Italy, we drove one hour to Como, where we spent a night at a hotel. The next day we drove to Austria.

We continued driving till we arrived at our apartment, named Apart Menta, in Galtür. We spent seven days there during which we went tracking on the Alps - mountains and forests. The trek to Jamtalhütte was the longest trek of all.

One day we went to a park where we saw a lot of wild animals, such as mountain goats, chickens and deer. On another day we went on another long drive and we took three cable cars to a mountain in Hintertux, which is 3,250 metres above sea level at the very top.

After the seven days passed we went to Lago di Garda and stayed at Hotel Meandro for two days. Our room number was 107. On the last day we drove to Malpensa airport. Then we flew back home.

That was a very enjoyable holiday! Thank you.

It's quite a while since your holiday, Sam. But it's always exciting to visit somewhere different and through your interesting letter we can all understand why you enjoyed yourself so much. And you've won a Lm 5 voucher and VIP Toyland's discount card for sending this week's star letter. Well done!

• Send your letters, together with your full name, age and address to Junior News.

• The sender of the star letter each week will receive a Lm5 voucher to exchange and a VIP 10 per cent discount card for all toys at Toyland for a whole year!
