Five young people were injured – two of them seriously – in a head-on collision yesterday at St Andrew’s Road, Ibraġġ.
The accident took place at around 8am, when a Honda Civic and a Volkswagen Golf collided. The Honda was being driven by an 18-year-old man from Mosta who was driving towards St Julian’s.
The man, as well as the two passengers who were in the car with him, were grievously injured.
The passengers were two women aged 17 and 20 from Naxxar and St Paul’s Bay.
The Volkswagen Golf was driven in the opposite direction, towards St Paul’s Bay, by a 20-year-old man from Mosta. A 31-year-old woman was also in the Volkswagen. The two were slightly injured.
In a separate accident at the same time, a 51-year-old man suffered back injuries in a collision involving two cars in Ninu Cremona Street at Raħal Ġdid.
The man, from Għargħur, was driving an Opel Astra on Bjar Street.
The other vehicle, a BMW 320D, was driven by a 36-year-old man from Fgura.
The 51-year-old man had to be freed from the car by members of the Civil Protection Department.
The 36-year-old man was not injured.
A motorcyclist was also injured in another collision with a car near Sa Maison at about 8.35am.
All three accidents re-sulted in road closures, which caused havoc for the early morning traffic.
