Xewkija Tigers 0
Nadur Youngsters 6

Nadur Youngsters inflicted a heavy 6-0 defeat on Xewkija Tigers to obtain three very important points, increasing the pressure on leaders Zebbug Rovers who could not go beyond a goalless draw in their match against Kercem.

The Youngsters were streets ahead of their opponents, even if they were missing their influential midfielder Mark Marlow due to injury.

On the other hand, the Tigers sorely missed the contribution of Saviour Farrugia and Martin Cremona who were banned for last weekend's match.

Nadur began the game in attacking fashion and opened the scoring in the 10th minute thanks to Mark Buttigieg following a corner-kick action.

Although the Youngsters were forced to substitute their injured goalscorer Buttigieg, they continued to dominate the match.

In the 13th minute, Aaron Camilleri doubled their tally with a sizzling shot from outside the area.

Xewkija enjoyed their best patch midway through the first half, going close to scoring through Mark Camilleri and Jonathan Buhagiar. However, the game was effectively over a minute from half-time when Alex Simoncic's free-kick made it 3-0 for Nadur.

With Xewkija failing to inject some organisation in their play, Nadur continued to convert their supremacy into more goals.

Three minutes into the second half, Chris Camilleri increased Nadur's lead when finishing off a personal action and Kevin Buttigieg made it 5-0 in the 57th minute

Sixteen minutes from the end, Camilleri got his second for a definite 6-0 win for Nadur who now trail Zebbug by a single point.

Zebbug Rovers 0
Kercem Ajax 0

Kercem Ajax and leaders Zebbug Rovers had to settle for a point each after their match ended in a disappointing goalless draw.

This was Zebbug's second consecutive draw but they are still the only unbeaten team in the championship.

More was expected of the Ajax as they faced a Zebbug side weakened by the absence of four regular players - Cardona, Eboh and Azzopardi were suspended and Galea was injured.

The first half set the tone of the match as the two teams created one chance each. Kercem's Elton Vella concluded high from a good position in the 27th minute while an effort by Zebbug's Charles Cini was cleared off the line by Camilleri seven minutes later.

The exchanges after the restart suggested that the two teams would make a contest of it but attempts at goal failed to hit the target.

Zebbug had two free-kicks by Touali finishing just wide while a good header by Silvan Galea crashed against the crossbar on the hour.

Kercem were dangerous early in the second half with a drive by Belhaj that was well saved by goalkeeper Xuereb but they wasted their best scoring opportunity four minutes from time when Draganov fired wide from close range.

Referee: Carmel Attard.

Victoria Hotspurs 3
Ghajnsielem 1

Victoria Hotspurs gained an important victory over Ghajnsielem to add to the uncertainty surrounding the relegation issue.

This result means that no fewer than five teams are now in danger of going down to Division Two.

The match was entertaining with several scoring opportunities at both ends.

Victoria only ensured victory with a third goal in stoppage time.

They had taken the lead on 32 minutes when Ghajnsielem's Frank Buttigieg deflected the ball into his team's goal in an attempt to clear a cross from the flank by Uwa Ogbodo.

This goal stunned Ghajnsielem who fell two goals behind a few minutes later, Victor Egere hitting home after he was sent clean by Ogbodo.

Egere could have put the Hotspurs further ahead but his header shaved the crossbar.

Ghajnsielem reopened the issue two minutes from half-time. Kalenga Ndayi stabbed home to conclude a fine move in the area by Joe Attard.

In the second period, Ghajnsielem pressed forward incessantly in search of an equaliser but efforts by Ndayi and Attard failed to yield dividends.

Victoria's counter-attacking approach produced attempts by Egere and Ogbodo.

Five minutes from the end, the Blacks missed their best opportunity to level the scores when Attard's header hit the crossbar.

In time added on, Ogbodo crowned his fine performance by scoring Victoria's third goal which sealed their success.

Division Two: Xaghra still on maximum points

Xaghra United, the Division Two leaders, maintained their perfect record after a 4-2 victory over Oratory Youths.

Two goals by Johann Attard (18, 30) and another one from John Camilleri (67) gave Xaghra a strong 3-0 lead but Oratory hit back with two goals in the space of two minutes through Damian Iriele (69) and Robert Said (71).

Xaghra made sure of their seventh victory when John Camilleri netted their fourth goal in the 90th minute.
