Young Stars 4
Lightshop Hotsticks 2

A match which lived up to its billing saw Young Stars beat Hotsticks 4-2.

On seven minutes, Luke Borg Costanzi fired Young Stars ahead, finding the net from the top of the D.

Continuing to exert pressure down their opponents’ left flank, Young Stars created several chances through teasing crosses across goal.

On 20 minutes, Young Stars’ Chris Attard hit the bottom of the post from a penalty corner action and seven minutes later, Mark Camilleri doubled their lead following another penalty corner award.

The majority of thrills were reserved for the second part of the match.

On 47 minutes, Lucas Plaehn pushed home to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and bring Hotsticks back into the game. But, five minutes later, Camilleri grabbed his second goal from yet another penalty corner action to restore Young Stars’ two-point lead.

Hardly two minutes elapsed when Jonathan Micallef picked his spot to fire low into the net and put Young Stars 4-1 ahead.

Hotsticks reduced the arrears to 4-2 when, on 61 minutes, Shawn Grima pushed home from the centre of the D.

Hotsticks maintained their pressure, even hitting the base of the post on 65 minutes but Young Stars held on to their two-goal lead.

Umpires: Paul Brincat, Glen Bonello.

Laferla White Hart 2
Rabat 2

White Hart went ahead as early as the fourth minute when David Agius hit a cracker from the top of the D.

By the 17th minute, Rabat had not taken advantage of four penalty corners. The game developed into an interesting midfield duel with both teams probing each other’s defences but being inconclusive inside the D.

On 29 minutes, Rabat equalised when Charlot Antonelli picked up a loose ball and ran through to score.

The half-time whistle sounded with the teams all square at 1-1.

Rabat continued to apply pressure early in the second half but did not avail themselves of several penalty corner opportunities.

After squandering a couple of their own, on 61 minutes Paul Torpiano shot White Hart into a 2-1 lead when he scored with an exquisite reverse hit from an acute angle.

Victory seemed to be in White Hart’s grasp but two minutes from time, Antonelli grabbed his second goal for Rabat to level matters, 2 -2  the final score.

Umpires: Edward Hughes, Reno Cremona.
