Young people are ready to be the country’s protagonists and leaders to transform the country into one of the future, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said.
Speaking during the annual general meeting of the Forum Zghazagh Laburisti, Dr Muscat said that to be European meant to believe in an open society where families were treated equally, where the government did not dictate one’s style of life and where the government gave the private sector the necessary space to continue to invest and create wealth.
Dr Muscat said that in the past four years, the PL had become a younger movement by speaking on issues which affected young people. It also became a more feminist and more positive movement
The Labour leader said that the coming times were crucial for the country as the year could start without an approved budget. This could lead to uncertainty and endanger jobs.
He reiterated his appeal to the Prime Minister to avoid this situation and not play with the people’s standard of living.
In the Prime Minister’s own words, the budget was a vote of confidence and the PL did not have confidence in the government because it had not been capable to bring about the promised change.
On the other hand, the change the PL movement wanted to bring about was one which would create certainty, he said.
