Fr Claude Portelli has been appointed parish priest for St Julian's. The Archbishop appointed Fr Portelli, 33, who has served as deputy parish priest there since 2003.

Educated at St Edward's College and the University of Malta, he served at Għaxaq parish during the first year of his priesthood.

He replaces Fr Ray Toledo, who has been appointed delegate to the Archbishop for the parishes. Fr Toledo will be responsible for the preparation of the parish pastoral plans, among other responsibilities.

In the meantime, the Pope has appointed Cardinal Ennaio Antonelli as his special delegate for the celebrations to be held in Malta on June 29 to conclude the Pauline Year, the Curia said yesterday. Cardinal Antonelli is the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family.
