A 23-year-old mother was today condemned to a suspended sentence after admitting her involvement in a number of hold-ups.

The court condemned Chantelle Camilleri of Ħamrun to two years imprisonment suspended for four years after she admitted to 15 charges before Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani.

Ms Camilleri admitted to her participation in:

* A hold-up at Fairplay Gaming Arcade on April 4, 2009 where, together with Bashir Abu Gasem Al-Hariri, Martin Cassar and another person, a total of €2,333 were stolen.

* A hold-up on April 7, 2009 in a gaming shop in Valley Road, Birkirkara, together with Bashir Abu Gasem Al-Hariri, Martin Cassar and another person where the haul was €2,329.

* An attempted hold-up on April 17, 2009 at Ambassador Gaming Arcade with Bashir Abu Gasem Al-Hariri .

* A hold-up on April 19, 2009 at Playline Gaming Arcade, Marsa, with Bashir Abu Gasem Al-Hariri, Martin Cassar and another person where the haul was €2,329.

* A hold-up on April 21, 2009, at Fairplay Gaming Arcade, Paola, with Bashir bu Gasem Al-Hariri, Martin Cassar and another person with the haul exceeding €2,329.

Ms Camilleri also admitted possession of a firearm and driving a car without licence and insurance cover.

In handing down sentence, the court considered the admission of the accused and the fact that she has to care for a child with special needs.

The accused was also placed under a Supervision Order.

Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Keith Arnaud prosecuted. Dr Gianella De Marco was defence counsel.
