A group of 28 young surgeons currently working at Mater Dei Hospital are receiving specialised training in a two-day advanced surgical workshop.
Two top foreign experts from Milan and Liverpool were brought to Malta to carry out this training, adopting newly developed techniques. Similar workshops have only ever been done in three other European institutes.
This is a new procedure in teaching which is the closest in preparing young doctors for a live surgical scenario, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and paediatric surgeon Chris Fearne said this morning when visiting the workshop.
Through this structured advanced training on different parts of the human body, provided locally by the Post Graduate Medical Centre, surgeons can continue their training while still providing their services at Mater Dei Hospital.
The Post Graduate Medical Centre is planning on delivering more training for doctors to promote continuous professional development for the benefit of patients.
