A drug addict has been jailed for seven months after disobeying her probation officer.

Ilona Bartolo, 23, from Pietá had been placed on probation for three years after admitting to being in possession of heroin which was not for her exclusive use. She had been she would be jailed if she did not obey her probation officer.

The probation officer informed the court of the situation and Mr Justice David Scicluna jailed the woman for her disobedience.

Mr Justice Scicluna said that from the outset, Ms Bartolo did not have the motivation to complete a drug rehabilitation programme and after entering a residential programme in Gozo administrated by the agency Oasi, she was quickly thrown out for not obeying the rules.

She was then placed in another residential programme under the auspices of the agency Sedqa after spending some time in Mount Carmel Hospital.

She left the programme together with her boyfriend, Kurtis Bakoush, went to live with him and almost immediately began to use heroin again.

Despite all the help given to her by OASI, Sedqa and Caritas, and her parents, Ms Bartolo ignored everyone and even informed her psychiatrist that she did not want to follow any type of rehabilitation programme.
