When words cannot express that which the dreamer wants to say, music makes up for it. Poetry and music have always been united in a harmonious matrimony throughout the ages of time.

You, the song which Steve Compagno released this week, modestly, yet skilfully and artistically, expresses gratitude and appreciation to those people who make life possible for us without expecting anything in return.

Already known for his charity single contributions with different top local artists, Compagno co-wrote You, a marvellous and impressive ballad, with Conrad Dimech, a local music-producer who was on the lookout for local talent that could alleviate local music to a different level. Beyond any doubt, both coalesced together musically and You was born in Blacklight Studios, Naxxar.

You also boasts a music video that has a lovely storyline and a strong local artistic cast. “All of the artists contributed heartily,” says Steve, “they loved the song and made sure that their acting scenes resonate the lyrics. All of the contributing artists told me that they could relate to the words of the song... therefore magic was created onstage”.

Filmed in the enchanting Salesians’ theatre in Sliema, Calì’s painting in the theatre witnessed artists Tezara Eve Camilleri, Guido Fenech and Simon Curmi together with ingenious musicians Danielle Ciantar, Odelsie Camilleri, Benjamin Le Brun and Conrad Dimech himself performing for the music video.

Steve describes how he collaborated with artistic director Marlon Paolo Polidano for the music video once again and plotted and shared the storyline of two lovers.

The couple in the video, played by Steve and Tezara walk back home after a lovely night out. He wants to surprise her and so he takes her to the theatre where a mischievious caretaker, played by veteran actor Guido Fenech, eagerly awaits them to carry out the pre-planned surprise. What the caretaker forgot to do was to tell the security of the theatre (Simon Curmi) about the whole event! As the music plays along, the security wakes up to the music and marches over to see what is going on...
