A 28-foot yacht, the Jessica II, sank early this morning after a fire broke out off the White Tower in Marfa.

The blaze was reported just before 2 a.m. A patrol boat based in Gozo and another from the maritime base at Haywharf fought the fire but the motoryacht sank soon after daybreak even though the flames were out by that time.

There was no one on board.
