The road from Victoria to Xlendi will start being rebuilt today, according to the Ministry of Gozo.

The project forms part of a bigger €9.5 million project which includes the road to Ta' Pinu, work on which is nearing completion. The EU is providing 85 per cent of the funding, with the rest made up by the government.

The ministry said traffic to Xlendi would be re-routed through the Ras il-Bajjada area in Munxar. For those heading towards Mġarr or Għajnsielem, the route would be through Xewkija, Sannat and Ras il-Bajjada. The project will see rubble walls being built, new drainage and water services and the consolidation of the electrical system.

The ministry said the road works had been delayed because of tender procedures and appeals.
