Xewkija Tigers recorded a deserved 4-2 win over Għajnsielem to boost their fight against relegation.

After fending off Għajnsielem's initial pressure, Xewkija took control. The Blacks wasted some good scoring opportunities early on through Thiago Dos Santos while a header by Errol Grima hit the post.

Xewkija went ahead on 24 minutes thanks to Andreas Fotso who fired home from a goalmouth melee. Two minutes later, Basil Chibueze took advantage of a blunder by Għajnsielem's defence to place the ball into an open goal.

Xewkija continued to attack and it was no surprise when they increased their lead nine minutes from half-time, Chibueze heading home from a corner action.

The Blacks might have reduced the arrears 20 seconds into the second half but Kenneth Mercieca's header came off the crossbar. The woodwork twice denied Xewkija from efforts by Chris Camilleri and substitute Joseph Azzopardi.

With 19 minutes left, Azzopardi put his name on the scoresheet when tapping the ball home from a Chris Camilleri free-kick.

Għajnsielem made a belated reaction in the dying moments. They struck two goals through substitute Stefan Azzopardi and Kenneth Mercieca to make the score look more respectable.

BOV GFA Cup

Kerċem Ajax pulled off a surprising win over Nadur Youngsters in a match from the preliminary round of the BOV GFA Cup.

Kerċem opened the scoring through Leonard Camilleri on 32 minutes and doubled their lead through Josef Debrincat seven minutes into the second half.

Claudio Antunes pulled one back for Nadur on 62 minutes but Kerċem regained their two-goal lead 17 minutes from time when Camilleri tapped the ball home from close range.

Minutes later, Kerċem could have increased their advantage but Milos Stojanovic's penalty kick was saved by the Nadur goalkeeper.

In the action leading to Kerċem's penalty, Nadur's Buttigieg was dismissed.

In stoppage time, Nadur reduced the deficit when Antunes converted a penalty.
