I cannot for the life of me understand what is taking Heritage Malta so long to re-install new antennae for the Ta' Kola Windmill in Xagħra, one of Gozo's most recognisable landmarks.

The windmill, restored into a beautiful museum in 1992, has been missing its vanes since 2008, after the previous set was dismantled for repairs having suffered weather induced damage.

Though one may appreciate the cost and necessary planning involved, it is important to fathom the great disservice we are giving the thousands of tourists who visit the site each year and are faced with metal scaffolding instead of the picturesque 18th century windmill they see on their guide books and tourist websites.

The restoration of this windmill should be given utmost importance by the competent authorities. Its idyllic presence was a window on Gozo's past, its folklore, and it blended beautifully with the characteristics with which we are striving to sell our touristic product.

"Do you see over yonder, friend Sancho?"

"No!" (with apologies to Miguel de Cervantes's Don Quixote).
